LLC "Izhstal-TNP"
The Izhstal plant has long been famous for the production of special grades of steel and has been producing axes, hacksaws and saws for almost a century. The first axes began to be produced in the blacksmith shop of the Izhevsk plant in 1925, when the country, reviving after the Civil War and devastation, needed tools.
It was an experiment, because traditionally axes were forged artistically, in small forges and workshops. But thanks to accelerated large-scale industrialization, the production of axes was transferred to large factories. Another thing is that the successful undertaking was interrupted: Izhstal was more needed as a supplier of high-quality steel for defense needs.
The Great Patriotic War all the more demanded all the resources of the plant. Izhstal started forging axes again in 1953, and on such a large scale that sometimes the annual output reached three million pieces! And the phrase "Izhevsk axe" has become firmly in use and has become associated with the high quality of these products. In the 1960s, saws and other similar products went into production. In 2003, the workshop producing axes and saws became a subsidiary of the plant — Izhstal-TNP.
Over 15 years, the company has produced 15 million axes, 20% of which were exported to Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Romania.
Izhstal axes are widely appreciated! And this is true: they are no longer produced by human hands or even steam hammers, as of old, but by unique presses that allow for accuracy up to tenths of a millimeter.
It is not surprising that Izhstal axes have repeatedly become prize-winners of the "100 best goods of Russia" contest.
