Titanium and stainless steel processing without compromise: Overview of the JJ Tools "SUS & TITANIUM" milling cutter series

Share:

Milling of austenitic stainless steels, titanium and heat-resistant nickel alloys (Inconel) remains one of the most difficult tasks in modern machining. Low thermal conductivity, tendency to riveting and high adhesion of the material lead to rapid wear of the cutting edges. The South Korean brand JJ Tools has developed a specialized line of carbide milling cutters for SUS & TITANIUM, designed to solve these problems and improve the productivity of CNC equipment.

Why can't the standard tool handle it?

When milling titanium alloys and stainless steel, up to 80% of the heat generated does not go into the chips, but into the cutting tool itself. Combined with the high viscosity of the material, this would cause chip sticking, micro-chips of the cutting edge and catastrophic wear of conventional milling cutters.

The JJ Tools for SUS & TITANIUM series was created specifically for these specific loads and combines three key technological solutions:

  1. Uneven pitch of the spiral (Unequal Helix / Pitch):The different angle of inclination of the chip grooves effectively dampens harmonic vibrations and vibration during power and high-speed processing. This ensures high surface cleanliness and prevents the edges from chipping.
  2. Specialized chip removal geometry:The increased volume of the grooves and the special polishing of the surface contribute to the rapid removal of chips from the cutting area, minimizing chip re-cutting and heat transfer to the milling cutter body.
  3. Multilayer heat-resistant PVD coating: The low-friction protective coating has increased resistance to oxidation at high temperatures (up to 1000-1100 °C), preventing the formation of growths on the cutting edge.

Key application areas

The milling cutters of the SUS & TITANIUM series are optimized for use in high-tech industrial industries:

Industry / Task Processed materials The result of using JJ Tools
Aircraft industry and space Titanium alloys (VT6, Ti-6Al-4V), Inconel (Inconel 718) Stable durability of the tool when removing a large volume of material
Food and chemical engineering Stainless steels (AISI 304, AISI 316L, 12X18H10T) No sticking, high cutting speed and reduced downtime
Medical industry Medical titanium, Co-Cr alloys (implants, prostheses) Precision precision dimensions and flawless surface roughness

Versions of the

series

As part of the for SUS & TITANIUM series, the manufacturer offers tools for any technological transition:

  • Cylindrical End Mills (Square End Mills): 4- and 5-tooth versions for roughing and finishing of grooves, ledges and profiles.

  • Radius cutters (Corner Radius): With a reinforced rounded edge for force processing of complex contours, reducing the load on the tops of the teeth.
