Continuing to review the various market segments of professional industrial tools, we would like to address today to car tools.

The tradition, or rather, even to say the inexplicable desire of the stronger sex to selflessly lie for several hours under a jacked "swallow" today, although it is not found in every yard and garage everywhere, however, to this day there is a large number of motorists who service their car independently. In this connection, the demand for automotive tools is growing in proportion to the demand for cars. 


Automotive tools will not be able to be separated into a separate category, such as metal-cutting tools, abrasive tools, etc. (We have previously reviewed the markets for these tools, see the corresponding section of our library). It is more logical to classify an automobile tool based on the intended work, and, of course, on the class of application.


Based on the proposed work, the automotive tool can be divided into:

  • A tool for locksmithing and installation work. This group includes those tools that are used in the process of repair work related to routine maintenance of the car, minor repairs, replacement of parts. These include spanners, spark plugs, cylinder wrenches, and chain wrenches. As well as ratchets, screwdrivers, pullers, end heads, bits, extension cords, adapters, etc.
  • A tool for small body repairs. If you have experience, and most importantly-aspirations and desires, the motorist performs tin work himself. In this case, the tool will essentially be used the same as the master would use at the service station: specialized chisels of various shapes and moles to give the desired shape. Otherwise, this tool can be called a straightening tool.
  • Tools-accessories, including brushes, scrapers, without which the operation of the car in the winter is unthinkable.
  • Software for vehicle diagnostics.


Based on the class of application, automotive tools, as well as any other, can be divided into:

  • DYI, amateur class. Such a tool is used in everyday life and is mostly infrequent. In this regard, it does not have high requirements for strength, accuracy, safety (this applies of course exclusively to "foolproof"), long-term, etc.
  • R&M - repair and maintenance. A tool for use as the main one when carrying out quite complex, but not daily repairs/use.
  • Professional-a tool for professional workshops, as a means of production, i.e. with the help of which they earn money, since its direct purpose is repair and maintenance at a high pace. The tool is durable, ergonomic, eco-friendly, with high performance and resource use.
  • Industrial-a tool for industrial streaming production.
  • Heavy duty-industrial "heavy-duty" tool.


Авто инструмент в гаражеThere is no point in giving advice on what kind of tool a car enthusiast needs in their arsenal - everyone will have different tasks and a range of actions. However, many authoritative sources agree that a plus or minus universal list can be like this:

  • A set of end heads. They are indispensable when the fasteners are located in places with limited access. It is recommended to squeeze out an extensive set with heads and keys for 1/2, 1/4 and 3/8 inches.
  • Pliers and pliers. Replacing the headlights, installing new acoustics-you will have to work with the wires.
  • Torque wrench-will not allow you to re-tighten the bolt, which then will have to be painfully unscrewed. It is better to use a limit type wrench for good tightening accuracy.
  • A set of wrenches and a set of screwdrivers-without further explanation.
  • Straightening hammer-for fixing dents on the body, removing stuck bolts.
  • Mobile searchlight - for the convenience of performing work in the dark.
  • Cable ties-will help to properly organize the" inside " of the machine, and not to stumble every time on the socket of the wires.
  • Multimeter with functions of ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter.
  • Wrench - without further explanation.
  • Lubricants and cleaners - for removing rust, cleaning brakes, protecting parts from friction and dirt.

In 2020 (despite the pandemic), the automotive industry market was estimated at $ 3,607. 5 billion. It is expected to almost triple by 2026, with an average annual growth rate of 16.8%. It is not surprising that the Asia-Pacific region will grow at the most significant pace - for example, in 2019, Chinese companies sold more than 25.75 million cars - China dominates the number of car users in the world. 


The market of automotive tools, following the market of the cars themselves, is also growing. Potentially, in the coming years, despite the global crisis caused by the second-year pandemic, the growth rate of the automotive tool market will be 4.2% per year. The Asia-Pacific region will mainly show demand and growth. Europe has traditionally shown a high demand for automotive tools. It is assumed that this will continue. North America is the second most important participant in the car maintenance tools market, mainly due to the automotive centers in the United States. The Middle East and Africa are recovering from the oil and gas crisis, demand from them will not grow, and in Latin America the market is only at the initial stage. 


In Russia, the automotive tool market is traditionally stable and also shows annual growth. There are several reasons for this - due to the seemingly incessant crises, the population simply does not have extra funds to service their vehicles from expensive official dealers, so they either manage themselves by the "garage" method, or in inexpensive service stations, which, by the way, are a huge number. If we talk about well-equipped service stations, they certainly use mainly high-quality and professional tools from world leaders. Amateurs and small-scale services - the tool is simpler, more budget-friendly, and mainly from China-Taiwan (even under Russian names). Another reason for the growth of the automotive tool market in Russia is paradoxical - at the end of 2020, the automotive market in Russia decreased by 9%. Moreover, sales of imported cars decreased only by 0.6%; Russian - made cars-by 2%; foreign cars of Russian assembly-by 3%. It is alarming that the most popular segment - passenger cars of the B+class-has decreased by almost 5%. But sales of premium cars increased, taking up 9.5% of the market (against 8.9% in 2019). Given the fact that Russians are forced to deny themselves the purchase of a new car, depreciation and maintenance of the old one becomes even more relevant-hence the growth of the market for tools for cars.

  • Stanley Black & Decker (SDB LLC) - 2.4 billion rubles / / 1.8 billion rubles, i.e. +33%.
  • Metabo (Metabo Eurasia LLC) - 1.3 billion rubles / / 1.1 billion rubles, i.e. +18%.
  • HiKOKI (LLC Haikoki Power Tools Rus) - 134.5 million ₽ // 124.1 million ₽, i.e. +8%.
  • Avtoprofi (LLC TD Avtoprofi) - 292 million rubles / / 366 million rubles, i.e. -21%.
  • Jonnesway and Ombra (sold through TD Pride LLC) - 437.5 million ₽ / / 389.2 million ₽, i.e. +12%.
  • Nussbaum (LLC Nussbaum Diagnostic Equipment) - in the reporting periods 0.
  • MASTAK + is exclusively represented by King Tony and Mighty Seven (MASTAK CENTER LLC) - 323 million // 303 million₽, i.e. +6%.
  • Delo Tekhniki (LLC DELO Tekhniki) - 291 million ₽ / / 281 million ₽, i.e. +3%.
  • Topex and NEO (LLC Topex Rus) - 235 million rubles / / 189 million rubles, i.e. + 24%.
  • Corvette and Anchor (Anchor Tool Company LLC) - 104.7 million rubles / / 105.6 million rubles, i.e. -1%.
  • Arsenal (Arsenal Tool LLC) - 12.8 million rubles // 12.4 million rubles, i.e. +3%.
  • KZSMI - 79 million ₽ / / 69 million ₽, i.e. +14%.
  • NIH (JSC Novosibirsk Tool Plant) - -27 million rubles // 10.2 million rubles. In 2019, a loss was made.
  • Kobalt (LLC Parus) is a new legal entity, there is no data for comparison. Other organizations of the group of companies have been liquidated.
  • Aist (LLC AIST) - 0. In the reporting periods, a loss was received.
  • Nordberg (Master Tool LLC) - the dynamics for the specified periods cannot be estimated - the legal entity is new, the previous ones have been liquidated.


Separately, let's say about Continental, Denso, Apex tool group, Puma, Maha, Stels, WMC tools, Snap-on and Delphi - these manufacturers work either directly with many dealers in the Russian Federation, or their exclusive resellers sell a huge number of other brands. In this regard, it is difficult to estimate their volume on the market (why do we need to analyze the turnover of multi-brand stores).
