Volkel machine taps are designed for high-performance work on CNC machines, turning and drilling centers, ensuring impeccable carving accuracy and long tool life.
Volkel machine taps are classified according to the type of thread being cut into three main groups:
Volkel taps for tapping inch threads
Volkel taps for tapping inch conical and cylindrical threads are designed to work with a variety of materials, including steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper, bronze and zinc, with a tensile strength of up to 900 N/mm2. They are made of high-speed steel.
Volkel taps for inch tapered NPT thread
|
NPT (National Pipe Tapered)
- Standard: American (ANSI/ASME).
- Profile angle: 60°.
- Taper: 1:16 (diameter is evenly reduced by 3/4 inch per foot of length).
- Designation on the tap: NPT 1/4, NPT 1/2, etc.
- Application: The main standard for pipe connections in the USA (gas, water, air, fuel).
- Construction: The tap itself has a taper. Its cutting part gradually forms a conical profile.
- Cutting depth: A critical parameter. The thread must be cut to a certain depth to ensure proper "end control". Usually there are risks on the tap body or the depth is indicated.
- Groove type:
- Helical: Most often. It provides chip removal from a deep conical hole.
- Direct: Less often, for specific tasks.
Volkel taps for inch cylindrical thread UNC/UNF
|
UNC/UNF (Unified National Coarse / Fine)
- Standard: American (general purpose inch thread).
- Profile angle: 60°.
- UNC - large pitch (for example, 1/2" -13).
- UNF - small pitch (for example, 1/2" -20).
- Application: Bolts, studs, American-made equipment (machine tools, aviation, auto).
Volkel taps for metric thread cutting M
Volkel taps for metric thread are a professional German-made threading tool designed for forming internal threaded connections according to the standard M (for example, M4×0.7; M12×1.75) in various structural materials.
|
Features of Volkel taps for metric threads
- High-quality steel: Special high-alloy high-speed steels (HSS-E) and powder steels (HSS-PM) are used, often with multilayer wear-resistant coatings (TiN, TiCN, TiAlN). This ensures a long service life and resistance to high temperatures.
- High accuracy: Volkel taps are manufactured in accordance with strict standards (DIN, ISO). The accuracy class is usually indicated on the shank (for example, ISO1, ISO2, ISO3).
- ISO1/H1 - for high-precision, through and blind holes.
- ISO2/H2 is the standard class for most operations (the most common).
- ISO3/H3 - for holes with possible splitting or for threads for painting/electroplating.
- Optimized geometry: The design of the chip grooves, the corners of the intake cone and the rear corners are designed to effectively remove chips and reduce the cutting moment.
- Wide range of products: The range includes all the main types of machine taps for different materials and working conditions.
The main types of Volkel taps for metric threads
- Taps with a straight chip groove. Standard taps for universal tasks. They are often used in shallow blind holes where depth control is important.
- Taps with a screw chip groove. The groove is twisted, which allows efficient chip removal up and out of the hole. They are ideal for through holes and for viscous materials (aluminum, copper, stainless steels).
- Taps with a screw intake cone. They have a special sharpening on the fence part, which pushes the chips forward. Designed for through holes only. They are very effective because they prevent shavings from clogging the grooves.
- Taps for blind holes. Threaded taps (springless). They do not cut metal, but plastically extrude the thread due to cold deformation. High thread strength (the fibers of the material are not cut), no chip problem, high durability.
Volkel taps for pipe thread cutting G
|
Volkel taps for cylindrical pipe thread (G) are designed for processing through and blind holes in various materials, including non-alloy and low-alloy steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper, bronze, zinc and other non-abrasive materials with a tensile strength of up to 900 H/mm2. They are made of high-speed HSS-G steel, which provides high wear resistance.
Features of cylindrical pipe thread
- Designation: G (for example, G1/4, G1/2, G3/4).
- Purpose: This is a parallel (not conical) thread. The tightness of the joint is achieved not by the thread itself, but by using a seal (FUM tape, thread, paste) or a rubber gasket, which is crimped when tightening.
- Profile angle: 55° (as opposed to 60° for metric).
- Measured in inches: The conditional passage of the pipe is indicated, not the physical diameter. For example, the outer diameter of the G1/2 thread is about 20.995 mm.
The main types of Volkel pipe taps
- With screw chip groove: The best choice for pipe thread. Long chips are effectively removed from the deep hole typical of pipe connections. Ideal for viscous materials and through holes.
- With straight grooves: For shallow holes or special materials.
- With screw intake cone: Only for through holes. The chips are pushed forward. They are very productive if the design of the part allows.
- Chip-free: For plastic materials (copper, aluminum, mild steels). They do not form chips, which is critically important for hydraulic systems. They provide the most airtight and durable thread.
Volkel taps are a professional tool that justifies its price when used correctly with increased productivity, stable thread quality and long service life. Choosing the right type of tap for your specific task is the key to an ideal result.
