Cleaning the metal from the emulsion

Elimination of the problem of emulsion stains on the metal surface using compressed air.

The emulsion is used in cold rolling mills for lubrication and cooling. However, it can cause corrosion of the strip if it is not removed. Removal of the emulsion is a top priority, since in the worst case, the metal surface defect caused by it can lead to the rejection of the whole roll.

In many cases, rubber pressing rollers are used to remove the emulsion from the steel strip. But sometimes there are difficulties with this, since it is necessary to constantly replace the spin rollers for optimal efficiency. Wear and damage to the spin rollers have a negative impact on the result - as a result, it is both costly and inefficient. Worn rollers lead to wet strips on the metal surface, which reduces the cost of the final product or may even lead to the rejection of part of the batch.

To minimize problems with the emulsion, the spin rollers should not only be replaced regularly, but also be supplemented with by purging with compressed air. This is done by installing a specially designed air knife, designed for the metallurgical industry. Compressed air effectively blows the emulsion off the metal strip, dries it and leads to less scrap.

3 reasons why the removal of the emulsion (coolant) with compressed air is more effective than with rubber pressing rollers:

• Compressed air does not require maintenance.

  The purge equipment does not wear out, as it does not come into contact with the steel strip. This makes the blowout solution virtually maintenance-free. If the blowing device is installed correctly, it gives a constant and stable pressure.

• Dry and clean process.

  Purging with compressed air is the preferred method of removing liquids from the surface of the strip, since it not only cleans excess liquid, but also has a drying effect.

• A suitable solution.

  When working with strips of different widths, it is advantageous to use a purge device capable of adjusting the blowing coating to different widths. Thus, the purging equipment increases the efficiency of removing the emulsion regardless of the width of the strip.
