JSC "OKB MEI" – Joint Stock Company "Special Design Bureau of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute" (OKB MEI, part of the holding "Russian Space Systems") is a leading company in the development of on–board and special antennas, unique radio telescopes, correlation-phase direction finders, laser-television systems of trajectory measurements, laser stations of accurate trajectory measurements for calibration of systems, VSAT technology satellite communication systems, optical communication systems, space-based radiometric equipment, radio telemetry and relay systems, radars. The main areas of activity are the development and production of on–board and ground-based information transmission equipment for special purposes, including, in protected mode, antenna systems, telemetry systems and ground-based receiving telemetry stations, command radio line equipment, space, rocket and aircraft-based equipment for stationary monitoring of the Earth's surface and its atmosphere; the creation of measuring, receiving and control radio engineering and optoelectronic complexes of equipment for testing ranges of rocket and aviation equipment; provision of services for trajectory measurements by means of correlation-phase direction finding; provision of services for the management of spacecraft for various purposes in the far, middle and near space in C, S, X-bands in international CCSDS formats; creation of radio polygons and provision of services for calibration of spacecraft synthesized aperture radars (RSA) for various purposes.

History

In 1947, by order of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, a Special Works Sector was created at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute for the purpose of jet weapons, transformed into a Special Design Bureau of the MEI.

Over the 65 years of its existence, the MEI Design Bureau has participated in the development of rocket technology, trajectory and telemetry measurement complexes, television systems for monitoring the behavior of biological objects in a state of weightlessness, the creation of a complex of systems that provided the flight of the world's first manned Vostok satellite spacecraft with cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the creation of the first domestic receiving telemetry station with magnetic data recording, the development of the "Soviet Cosmovision" (a space television system operating in the broadcast standard), the transmission of television and telemetry information of the first-ever spacewalk of cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, and much more.
