Pneumatic hydraulic converter Kottami

A pneumatic-hydraulic converter is a device that combines the operating principles of pneumatic and hydraulic systems. This unit is relevant in various industries where it is necessary to convert energy from one type to another to perform important technological processes. 

The Kottami pneumatic-hydraulic converter (PHC) is used to "convert" mechanical vices into pneumatic ones.

Pneumatic hydraulic converter is used to convert air pressure and force (pneumatics) into liquid pressure and force (hydraulics). With a complete set (PGP with a hydraulic unit), the operator can clamp the workpiece in a mechanical vice by pressing a button, which significantly simplifies and speeds up the process of changing the workpiece/part.

The main functions of the device include:

1. Pressure increase: Energy conversion allows you to obtain higher pressure levels in the hydraulic system using the energy of the pneumatic system. Using the PGP, you can increase the air pressure level by 48 times.

2. Flexibility and control: Ensures smooth and precise control. Using the PGP common errors when working with mechanical vices (overtightening/undertightening) are eliminated.

3. Energy saving: Energy savings due to the use of compressed air instead of complex electrical systems.

Operating principle

When the manual distributor button (1) is pressed, air is supplied at a pressure of up to 8 bar to the piston of the pneumohydraulic converter with a diameter of 125 mm (2). The piston presses on a hydraulic cylinder with a diameter of 18 mm (3), which creates a hydraulic oil pressure of 390 bar. Thus, the pressure increases by 48 times. Oil through the hydraulic tube presses on a hydraulic cylinder with a diameter of 32 mm (4), which creates a jaw stroke (5) of up to 21 mm and a force of 3 (three) tons. It is possible to install an increased hydraulic cylinder with a diameter of 42 mm (4), which creates a jaw stroke (5) of up to 12 mm and a force of 5 (five) tons. A pneumatic-hydraulic converter with a hydraulic cylinder ensures high clamping speed. TMK vices can be equipped with a classic screw-jaw kit, which provides versatility and a wedge-shaped jaw with a screw located at an angle, which provides increased repeatability (up to 1 μm).

THE HYDRAULIC CYLINDER IS INSTALLED INTO THE STANDARD HOUSING OF THE TMK SERIES VICE, the Italian GERARDI vise and its Chinese counterpart the GT series.
