Dies - types and applications
A die is a tool for threading on the outer surfaces of studs and other elements. The tool can vary in its shape and design, but the main difference is the type of thread being made, which can also vary in pitch, be made in a metric or inch system. This tool is mainly used for professional purposes, and can also be used for processing workpieces at home.
Types of dies
Alloy steel grades 9XC, P18 and their analogues are used for the manufacture of the die. The high strength of steel makes it possible to cut metal workpieces providing the necessary depth of passage. The die itself is a steel washer having axial holes with special grooves forming cutting edges that ensure the removal of metal when threading.
The dies vary in size and inner diameter, and are available in an assortment of all popular sizes for threaded connecting elements. There are varieties for manual surface treatment, as well as for use in conjunction with machine tools, in particular lathes and drilling machines. The shape of the body of the product can be round, tubular, square, hexagonal. They are used for cutting solid blanks and pipe threads.
The following models are distinguished by the device of the housing:
- Solid – represent a solid element with holes in the center, adjustable thread cutting. This variety is one of the most common. Depending on the level of hardness of the metal, it is possible to thread the first and second level of accuracy;
- Sliding (kluppovye) – consist of two parts, the fixation and regulation of which is carried out with the help of a klupp. They differ in the possibility of changing the diameter of the workpieces being processed. They are versatile in operation, but do not differ in high processing accuracy;
- Split ones are similar in design and principle of operation to sliding ones, they are also universal, but due to their low rigidity they provide relatively low processing accuracy.
The dies also differ in the direction of the thread: the right ones are used for processing screws and bolts with the right thread, the left ones are used for thread restoration.
Parameters to select
Which die is suitable for work? First of all, when choosing, you need to take into account the width and pitch of the thread, based on what parameters the workpiece has. For professional work, it is better to use a tool with a solid body, since its rigid design will allow you to get a better result. For domestic use, universal split and sliding models are suitable, more functional, but less accurate.
In the catalog "Русский Инструмент" you can find any type of dies. In addition to standard solutions, the catalog presents dies for special thread valves and cylinders.
