Irrigate a plot - differences between manual and stationary irrigation

Share:

Every owner of a summer cottage or personal plot is faced with the problem of regular watering. Adequate irrigation is one of the main actions, thanks to which the plants develop correctly, and the grass does not wilt and maintains a beautiful green color. Errors and lack of knowledge regarding watering can lead to serious consequences, such as rotting and dying of plants, so first you should learn how to properly water your site and which watering method to choose.

Good practice

No matter what green area we water and what style of watering we choose, it is worth remembering a few basic principles of proper watering of plants.

One of the most important is to choose the right time of day. Most plant care guidelines recommend morning watering, especially during extreme heat. In the morning, water is most quickly absorbed into the soil, so that the roots more effectively absorb it. However, if we do not want to get up early in the morning, we will have to water in the evenings, when the air becomes colder than in the afternoon. In no case should you water the plants in the summer in the middle of the day, this can lead to serious burns of the plants and even to their death.

Besides:

  • It is better to water the site less often, but more abundantly, so that the water is absorbed into the soil to a depth of about 10-15 cm and reaches the lower part of the roots. The exception is young, poorly rooted plants, for which a large amount of water is not recommended.
  • The watering process should be long, with regular use of small portions of water, so that the absorption is slow and gradual. Flooding of the roots can lead to rotting and death of plants.
  • Irrigation of the leaves is also usually impractical, since at night the wet areas of the plants can be affected by fungus, and during the day moisture can lead to burning of the leaves.

After getting acquainted with all the above rules, it is worth thinking about which method of watering is best suited for our site.

Stationary irrigation

This type of watering may seem the most convenient. For irrigation in this case, a mechanical sprinkler is responsible, which itself distributes water around the site without the help of a person. The great advantage of this irrigation system is the ability to program the watering frequency if you additionally set a timer on the tap. This feature allows you to regularly water the plot, even when you are not at home for a long time (for example, during a vacation). Stationary watering is best suited for even surfaces (for example, large areas of grass). Traditional stationary garden sprinklers, such as , for example, the VERTO 15G785 hairpin sprinklers, provide uniform watering of the surface up to 78m2. An interesting offer is also the VERTO 15G773 model, which allows you to adjust the range and width of irrigation, and is also equipped with a rotary knob to adjust the water pressure depending on the type of irrigated plants. However, if you have a very large lawn, with an area of morethan 100 m2, then you should consider buying a sector irrigation system, such as the 6-function VERTO 15G788 irrigation system , with a maximum irrigation area of 350m2. Stationary watering is not necessarily the best solution for watering flowerbeds, clusters of plants, or hedges. Sometimes in these cases, it is better to choose manual watering.

Manual watering

This system is much better suited for spot watering (for example, shrubs, trees) and watering plants of irregular shape (for example, flower beds, hedges). The mechanism consists of a traditional garden hose connected to a water source and a pistol-type sprinkler. A great advantage of manual sprinklers is the ability to adjust the water pressure and the type of jet. In modern systems, all these options are built into the pistol-type sprinkler. An example of such a sprinkler is our model VERTO 15G710, in which you can adjust the force of the jet using the rotary knob, which is located on the handle, in the place where the thumb is located. In addition, a clear graphic marking on the tube indicates how to choose the type of jet in accordance with the type of plants being watered — for example, small irrigation can be used to water delicate flowers and young plants, and a point jet can be used to water trees and shrubs that are firmly rooted in the ground. Strong water pressure can also wash away dirt from the sidewalk and paving stones, and a jet under low pressure can fill a bucket or watering can, without splashing water. The VERTO offer also includes complete kits, such as the 15G713, which includes a pistol-type sprinkler, connectors made of two materials, and a tap connection. The user, buying one product, receives all the elements necessary for connecting the hand-held sprinkler to the hose and water source.

Or maybe two in one?

Most of the homestead plots have a variety of plants, ranging from large lawns to complex flower beds. If you have such a plot, then you should think about buying a large irrigation system that includes both manual and stationary systems. To create such an installation, a special distributor is usually used for a water source that will split the jet into several lines.

Regardless of which watering method you choose, it is also important to remember to store garden hoses properly so that they do not take up much space and do not collapse due to bends or tangles. To do this, you should purchase a professional garden hose rack VERTO 15G790. The rack drum is very roomy — it holds about 45m 1/2 "hose, or about 35m 5/8" hose, or about 15m 3/4 " hose.
