What is torque?

The torque required to tighten the threaded connection is the force specified in Newton meters (Nm), which is created at the end of the lever, and creates the corresponding pre-tension force on the bolted connection.

How is the torque measured?

The torque is calculated by multiplying the force F applied to the lever by the distance from the point of rotation to the point of application of the force L (the length of the lever). Mathematically, this is expressed as follows: Torque MA = Force F x Lever L. The diagram shows the relationship between the force F, the lever L and the torque.

Schema1.pngTo determine the appropriate torque, we use the formula:

MA = FxL = 20 H x 1 m = 20 Nm (Newton per meter)

MA = FxL = 20 H x 2 m = 40 Nm (Newton per meter)

This means that the actual torque applied to the screw changes when the hand position on the key changes

Operating principle

Diagram 2.png

The figure shows the fastening of two metal sheets (pressing against each other) using a detachable bolt connection by tightening one nut. The achieved traction force arising in the bolt depends on the angle of the thread pitch. The turning force is caused by the pulling force. This pre-traction force is the determining factor for an optimal bolted connection.

Why? An optimally tightened bolted connection creates sufficient resistance to prevent loosening.

If the pre-tightening force is too low, the bolted connection may weaken, for example from vibration. If the pre-tightening force is too high, there is a danger that the bolted joint may stretch or burst.

You can achieve optimal tightening force by using the appropriate tightening torque. Each bolted connection has a certain tightening torque that meets various requirements for fastening. Only with these values in mind, it is possible to tighten the bolted connection to a certain force in a safe, correct and economical way.

It is for tightening threaded connections with a strictly defined moment that torque wrenches are used. The Norgau line has a large number of torque wrenches.

The all-metal construction made of high-strength aluminum alloy makes not only a lightweight torque wrench, but also strong, durable, with high wear resistance and resistance to aggressive environments and temperatures.

The limit of permissible relative error ± 3%

The axis of rotation coincides with the axis of application of force, thanks to this it is possible to work with two hands regardless of the point of application of force
