It was 1921 - the beginning of the garage trade in England and the beginning of the history of the Sykes-Pickavant company. Jack Pickavant saw the opportunities opening up in connection with the development of the garage trade, and created the company J.W. Pickavant & Co Ltd to sell accessories, spare parts and tools for cars. Joe Sykes also joined the company as its first salesman, who called garages and engineering workshops. By the end of the twenties, Pickavant had firmly entered the field of production of maintenance tools, as mechanics faced the problem of repairing and servicing more complex cars and trucks. This enabled Pickavant to create new tools for fast and efficient execution of these works.
In 1931, Joe Sykes left J.W. Pickavant & Co Ltd to start his own business as a distributor of tools under the Sykes brand. After the war, import rationing became the dominant factor, so J. F. Sykes also took the first steps in production and assembly. By 1950, Joe Sykes
