Luga Abrasive Factory

OAO Luga Abrasive Plant is a modern multi-profile enterprise with a century-old history located in Luga, Leningrad Region. Today it is one of the world's largest single production of abrasive tools, and the LUGAABRASIV trademark is an internationally recognized quality mark of Russian tools.

Scale and geography

The plant is a high-tech production complex with a total area of 513,000 square meters. m. The company employs 1,665 highly qualified employees, and the annual production volume of cutting wheels exceeds 300,000,000 products.

All products are manufactured in Russia, at our own production sites located in the Leningrad and Pskov regions. This allows us to fully control the quality at all stages of production and guarantee the stability of supplies.

Products

The range of the plant includes over 14,000 standard sizes of products. We produce:

• Cutting, grinding, polishing and stripping wheels;

• Petal circles;

• Grinding segments and bars;

• Flexible-based products (sandpaper);

• Graphite-containing and fireclay products (crucibles, muffles, etc.) for melting and casting non-ferrous metals.

Our tool is designed for processing a wide range of materials and is compatible with various industrial equipment.

Production structure

To ensure maximum efficiency and independence from external factors, production is divided into several specialized divisions.:

• Workshop No. 1 (Luga): The main production, which includes bakelite and crucible sections, as well as a section for the manufacture of sandpaper products. The production lines here are upgraded and automated every year.

• Luga-2 playground: A new modern division, where the production of sandpaper has been established and a warehouse of finished products is located. This project was the result of the management's strategy for the development and autonomy of the enterprise.

• Shop of components and packaging containers: Auxiliary production, which provides the main workshops with labels, sleeves and all types of packaging. It includes printing, cartoning, and stamping areas.

• Workshop No. 3 (OPP, Dno): Production of abrasive tools on bakelite and ceramic bundles, located on a strategically convenient site with access railway tracks.

• Workshop No. 4 (OPP Island): A modern production facility where continuous work is underway to upgrade equipment and introduce new technological solutions to increase efficiency.

History and development

The history of the plant began at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1911, a private workshop stopped producing crucibles, but with the restoration of the country's industry, production was revived. The first head of the Luga Industrial Plant, D.A. Korman, and a unique crucible specialist, Joseph Kasprzyk, played a key role in this.

In 1926, the production of bakelite-bonded abrasive tools was mastered at the Smychka plant. After the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War, when both plants were evacuated, the production facilities were restored and merged into a single Krasny Crucible plant. In 1957, they mastered the production of circles on a ceramic bundle.

The plant has transformed from an ordinary enterprise into a high-tech giant. In recent decades, large-scale reconstructions have been carried out, equipment has been modernized, and innovative technologies have been introduced using high-quality materials from leading European companies. In 2019, a new modern workshop for the production of sandpaper was successfully launched at the Luga site.
