Irkutsk cable

The enterprise JSC "Irkutskkabel" was designed and built as a highly specialized plant for the production of two main groups of cable products: uninsulated aluminum and steel-aluminum wires for overhead power lines and power cables exclusively with aluminum cores. The need for uninsulated wires was due to the construction of high-voltage power lines from the Irkutsk, Bratsk, Krasnoyarsk, Ust-Ilimsk hydroelectric power stations. Power cable was required for the construction of the Bratsk, Krasnoyarsk and Sayansk aluminum plants, the Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsk timber processing complexes, and the Sayansk and Usolsk "Khimprom".

Every year the plant's team mastered the production of new types of cable products.

In 1966, the first stage of the workshop for the production of uninsulated wires was commissioned.

In 1973, the production of power cables in PVC insulation was mastered.

In 1974, the production of cables in paper-impregnated insulation was launched.

In 1976, the production of control cables with plastic insulation was mastered.

In 1993, the plant was one of the first in Russia to begin production of self-supporting insulated wires.

In 1996, the first batch of power and control cables with copper conductive cores was released.

In 2003, a new production line for gas vulcanization from the company "Maillefer" was installed at the plant and production of power cables with cross-linked polyethylene insulation for voltages of 6-35 kV was launched.

In 2009–2011, a series of fire-resistant, flame-retardant electric cables with increased reliability and fire safety indicators were created, their manufacturing technology was developed, and their industrial production was organized.

In 2012-2014, research and development work on the creation of a high-temperature superconducting HTSC DC cable was successfully completed.

In 2016, the plant began producing modern cable products - power cables with ethylene-propylene rubber insulation.

In 2017, the plant launched a project to produce flexible installation and control cables.

In the same year, they launched production of non-insulated compacted wires, including those with a carbon composite core, under license from the American company "STS GLOBAL"

Currently, JSC Irkutskkabel produces more than 100,000 brands and sizes of cable products, the range of which takes into account the needs of all sectors of the economy, work continues on developing new types of products and modernizing production.

In 1994, JSC Irkutskkabel was one of the first in Russia to certify its quality management system and is constantly improving it.

Every year, JSC Irkutskkabel develops and implements measures aimed at increasing labor productivity, preserving existing jobs and creating new ones in close contact with enterprises of the Shelekhovsky municipal district.

The company has been successfully implementing Lean Manufacturing for several years now, paying great attention to the constant involvement of personnel in improvement processes, material and moral incentives for employees. Thanks to the employees’ activeness in submitting rationalization proposals and using the project form of change organization, the enterprise shows good results in reducing order fulfillment time, minimizing inventories, increasing capacity and introducing efficiency-enhancing technologies.

The development of modern information technologies plays an important role in increasing the efficiency of production management. Recently, the plant has managed to solve many problems using the world's leading achievements in this area. Among the main successful implementations, we can highlight a joint project with the technical service for standardization and automation of calculations of cable structures and manufacturing technologies. The software platform provides a convenient and effective mechanism for managing changes in large arrays of regulatory information. Technically, the system was built on the basis of a CAD-class complex and is currently a unique solution among cable enterprises in Russia. It is also worth noting the project to improve production planning processes using the concept of process-based APS\MES planning and control of semi-finished products in real time. This solution made it possible to significantly optimize the plant's capacity utilization, gain the ability to monitor the status of each order at any time, reduce the response time to unforeseen circumstances in the workshops, and increase the turnover of the finished product warehouse.

Today, JSC Irkutskkabel is one of the largest cable plants in Russia. The achievements of the enterprise are the merit of the entire team.
