АО «НИИ «Полюс» им. М.Ф. Стельмаха» Joint Stock Company "M.F. Stelmakh Polyus Research Institute" is the leading scientific center of Russia in the field of laser technologies. It is part of the Shvabe holding of Rostec State Corporation. On August 25, 2016, by order of the Moscow Government, it received the status of a Technopark.

JSC "Research Institute "Polyus" named after M.F. Stelmakh" specializes in the following main areas of quantum electronics:
  • solid-state lasers and devices based on them;
  • semiconductor lasers of all types and transmitting and receiving modules for fiber-optic communication lines;
  • gas laser laser gyroscopes and navigation devices;
  • active, electro-optical and nonlinear crystals for lasers;
  • quantum-dimensional structures for semiconductor lasers and photodetectors;
  • laser medical and technological installations.

JSC "Research Institute "Polyus" named after M. F. Stelmakh" is Russia's largest research and production center in the field of quantum electronics, has many unique basic technologies:
  • growing of active and nonlinear special crystals for lasers;
  • nanotechnology for the formation of multilayer structures of AIIIBV compounds for semiconductor heterolasers and photodetectors;
  • formation of multilayer dielectric coatings.

Polyus Research Institute is a supplier of laser processing units, semiconductor and solid-state lasers, laser rangefinders and designators for high-precision weapons, laser gyroscopes of various types and purposes, as well as navigation units based on them.

Since 2015, the Institute has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Basic Department "Laser Technology" of the Russian Technological University of the Institute of Physics and Technology (MIREA) Kuznetsov Evgeny Viktorovich.

The Institute successfully fulfills the state defense order for the development and supply of new equipment. The merits of the Polyus Research Institute were highly appreciated by the state, its employees were repeatedly awarded orders and medals. V.I. Shveykin and G.M.Zverev became laureates of the Lenin Prize. The laureates of the State Prizes and prizes of the Council of Ministers of the USSR were V. M. Vakulenko, M. G. Vasiliev, V. M. Garmash, V. G. Dmitriev, V. P. Duraev, A.V. Ievsky, A. A. Kazakov, E. A. Lukin, B. N. Malyshev, S. R. Rustamov, A. I. Smirnov, M. F. Stelmakh, A. I. Timofeev, V. L. Pav lovich, V. A. Pashkov, A. A. Shokin, etc.

A number of young employees are laureates of the Lenin Komsomol Awards. VDNH medals were awarded for various developments in laser technology. For the creation of new laser devices for the Russian Army in 2004, eight employees of the Research Institute "Polyus" became laureates of the award of the Government of the Russian Federation. In 2012, three employees of the Institute became laureates of the prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for young scientists.

The high qualification of scientific personnel and the competitiveness of the products of the Polyus Research Institute contribute to active scientific, technical and commercial cooperation with companies from Australia, Israel, India, China, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and other countries.












Participation in international exhibitions and conferences is celebrated annually with diplomas and medals.

JSC "Research Institute "Polyus" named after M.F. Stelmakh" has a state accreditation of a scientific organization and conducts an active policy both to preserve the existing human resources potential and to train, attract and consolidate young promising personnel.

Two basic departments of the leading physical and technical universities of Moscow - "Quantum Electronics" of the Faculty of Physical and Quantum Electronics of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) are successfully operating at the Polyus Research Institute: "Laser Technology" of the Faculty of Electronics and Optoelectronic Technology of the Moscow Institute of Radio Electronics and Automation (MIREA).

The Institute's staff includes two academicians, 15 doctors of sciences (including 10 professors), more than 70 candidates of sciences, 20 graduate students and applicants.

Since 1988, the Institute has organized and successfully operates postgraduate studies, both full–time and part–time, licensed by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation for the right to conduct educational activities in the field of postgraduate professional education in the specialties: 05.27.03 - "Quantum electronics" and 05.11.07 - "Optical and optoelectronic devices and complexes".

The Institute was founded in 1962, and since 2001 has been named after the founder and first director Mitrofan Fedorovich Stelmakh (1918-1993), a famous military radio engineer, general, Doctor of Technical Sciences, laureate of the USSR State Prize.

Over the years of its existence, the Institute's staff has written many glorious pages in the history of domestic laser instrumentation from the first serial lasers of the LTI, LTI-PCH series to complex laser information systems for military and civilian applications. The Institute has developed and put into mass production dozens of unique military devices, numerous laser medical and technological equipment, a number of lasers for scientific instrumentation.
